Radiohead

1985 — present

Radiohead was formed in Oxford in 1985 under the initial name On a Friday. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway transitioned from being a British alternative rock band with Pablo Honey to becoming the architects of twenty-first-century sound. OK Computer defined millennial anxiety, and Kid A broke with rock to embrace electronica and experimental jazz. With In Rainbows, they challenged the music industry by releasing the album with a pay-what-you-want system. Their music combines melancholy, harmonic complexity, and technological innovation, and has influenced virtually all subsequent alternative music.
